Remembering  Mary Grace

The Mary Grace Hospice Foundation was established in 2012 in loving memory of Mary Grace Goslin DiGiorgi, an extraordinary nurse whose life’s work was dedicated to caring for children and supporting families during their most vulnerable moments.

Mary Grace devoted more than 30 years of her nursing career to pediatric care. A graduate of Mount Mercy Academy in Oakland, The Braddock School of Nursing, and Duquesne University, she began her professional journey at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she served in numerous roles, including Nursing Director of the Intensive Care Unit. Her clinical expertise, leadership, and compassion earned her deep respect from colleagues, patients, and families alike.

Driven by her belief that children thrive best in the comfort of their homes, Mary Grace later joined Interim HealthCare as a Home Care Supervisor and ultimately became Vice President of Pediatrics at Interim HealthCare of Pittsburgh, Inc. Under her leadership, she developed one of the largest home-based pediatric care programs in the nation, supporting both adult and pediatric ventilator-dependent clients.

Mary Grace’s approach to care extended far beyond clinical excellence. She treated every patient as an individual—honoring their unique needs, hopes, and dreams. She was a passionate advocate for technology-dependent children, working to ensure their inclusion in school systems and partnering with organizations such as Make-A-Wish to bring joy and meaning to their lives. Equally important to her was supporting families and caregivers with empathy, respect, and a non-judgmental approach rooted in love and dignity.

A dedicated mentor and advocate, Mary Grace was deeply committed to educating and supporting her paraprofessional staff, maintaining high standards while fostering growth, confidence, and compassion. Outside of her professional life, she was an Irish step dance champion during her college years and brought the same energy, warmth, and zest for life to everything she did.

At age 56, Mary Grace was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Throughout her two-year journey, she continued to inspire others with her grace, wisdom, and unwavering belief in the inherent worth of every individual. She reminded those around her that caring for others—regardless of age or circumstance—is both a privilege and a calling.

The Mary Grace Hospice Foundation carries forward her legacy by supporting individuals and families during times of serious illness and loss. Guided by Mary Grace’s values of compassion, dignity, and holistic care, the Foundation remains committed to uplifting those in need—just as she did throughout her life.
